"Lil Red" is our newest acquisition.
It is a Freelance 0-6-0 loco based on a 2ft-gauge prototype, thus ends up being rather wide.
''Lil Red'' was purchased from Grant Alexander up near Hamilton.It was originally powered by a small Honda Petrol Motor with Centrifugal Clutch drive.However when Grant purchased it, he sold the Petrol Motor, and installed an Electric Drive.This is how it is today.The power comes from a 350W 24-volt motor driven by chain to the wheels.This is a loco with alot of power, and capable of speeds of up to 11kph.
It is capable of towing 3-Ridecars full with Passengers around a track with grades of up to 1-in-60.On testing though, it pulled 5x 1.89m-long Ridecars, aswell as 3x 1m-long 4-wheelers.
The 24v power source is 2x 40 Amp-Hour 12v Batteries connected in series.This then goes through a 4QD Vortex-75 controller to the motor.
The headlight is simply 2x cheap LED lights from Super Cheap Auto.These produce an excellent beam which work really well at 10pm!
Basically, 1 light sits in-front of the Front Grill, and the other on the Exhaust Muffler.
